What do you do when it all falls apart?
Pietro figured that nothing could hurt as much as seeing Erik laying on the table, still and lifeless.
However, when he woke up alone the following morning, Erik's side of the bed cold, he was hit with the realization that he'd never wake up beside the other man again and the pain he felt in that moment could be rivaled only by how much he'd hurt after he and Wanda had been rescued after the bombs and they had to accept that their parents were gone.
Wanda had spent the first five days with him but she'd had to return to the Avengers for business with the promise she'd be back in a few days.
He made it five more before he couldn't handle it anymore.
Wanda found him in the bathroom and within 12 hours, the apartment had been completely packed up; both his and Erik's clothes and most personal belongings going to the Avengers facility and the rest going into storage until such a time that Pietro could face sorting through it.
The following weeks were spent mostly in bed. His body ached with the need to move but it was nothing compared to the pain that had him struggling to breathe whenever he woke from a dream and realised that that was all it was and it was Wanda beside him, not Erik.
He ate when Wanda told him to, bathed when she dragged him into the bathroom. He curled up on the couch when she stripped the bed to clean his sheets.
It was one such day when the commotion started.
Pietro didn't budge.
